ABOUT ME
(peace)
I was raised in Cape Town, South Africa, under the shadow of Table Mountain by a midwife mother. At the age of 18, fate led me to Scotland. I found myself living around the corner from the wonderful Nicola Mahdiyyah Goodall and in 2021, I attended the Red Tent Doula Preparation course. My reverence for women and birth has only grown since then, and I have spent the last years equally fostering that passion and supporting women.
For one and a half years, I studied a Midwifery degree, thinking that was the way I could best support women. Sadly, there I wasn't "with woman" as the name midwife suggests, but instead I felt I was partnering with a system that sought out risk and had little trust in women nor reverence for this life process. So I left. Since then, I have had the privilege of attending women in a small town in the Holy Lands of Sinai, Egypt, where I was reminded of how transformative birth can be when the woman is left to the rhythms of her body and with the loving support of those chosen by her. I have now returned to Edinburgh and have put aside my globetrotting tendencies (for the most part) put down some roots here in Scotland.
I am grateful for my time working in hospitals, as this gives me a unique lens into the working of NHS midwives and doctors, but more so I am grateful for the many teachers I have learnt from outside of it. After training with Red Tent Doulas I have trained with Paramana Doulas with Liliana Lammers and Michel Odent. I have completed the True Midwifery for her First Aid for Mother and Baby with the wonderful Ruth Ehrhart. I have also had Perinatal mental health training with Aberlour Children's Trust as a perinatal volunteer, and I am currently volunteering as a perinatal companion for Amma Birth Companions in Glasgow.
I now live in Edinburgh with my Venezuelan husband, surrounded by a wonderful community. This is the area I am blessed to serve.
